George H. Iken Jr., 90, Green Bay, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021. He was born on November 21, 1930 in Oak Park, IL to George Sr. and Viola G. (Kraning) Iken.
George graduated from Shawano High School in 1948 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. serving for four years and was a Korean War Veteran.
On January 25, 1954, George married Mitzie Donaldson and together they had three children. He was employed as a field engineer for IBM, retiring in 1993. George did volunteer work at the Rawhide Boy's Ranch and assisted other veterans to learn computer maintenance and repair skills. George also worked part time for the Howard-Suamico School District installing and maintaining computer systems.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1962 where he also served on the church council in various roles over the years.
George was an animal lover; domesticated and wild. He also enjoyed sailing, photography, the camaraderie of deer hunting, and was a survivor of the "Ice Bowl" on December 31, 1967.
George is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mitzie; his children, Charles (Karen) Iken of Green Bay, Mary (Chris) Groh of Eau Claire, Robert (Mary) Iken of Green Bay; three sisters, Maxine Berard of Minneapolis MN, Cheryl Sauter of Sierra Vista, AZ, Lyla Pelzer of Odessa FL; two granddaughters, Maggie (Milwaukee) and Jayne (Green Bay).
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David.
Private family memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church. Entombment will be at the Fort Howard Chapel Mausoleum on a future date when other friends and family members can more safely attend.
