Gary Laubenstein, 58, Sobieski, passed away, Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at a local hospital. He was born March 21, 1949, in Sturgeon Bay, to Kenneth and Irene (Tomjanovich) Laubenstein. He graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1967.
Throughout his younger years, he worked in the shipyards and was a boilermaker in Minnesota, Michigan and Arizona. Gary started in rough carpentry that led him to work with his father's company, Laubenstein Realty and Builders eventually leading him to start his own business, Laubenstein Builders in Green Bay.
On July 31, 1982, he married Sara Seiler at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Algoma. In 1986, he received an award for the Best New Builder Performance with Sterling Homes. He enjoyed bowling, golfing with his friends, watching his boys play soccer, grilling out with his family, playing cribbage, watching the Packers, and playing foosball with his boys. His real love was doing finishing work within homes.
Gary made furniture for his family and had fun plowing snow for his neighbors. He was a hard worker and always helped anyone who needed help. He was proud of landscaping his yard and maintaining it. Gary was a member of Saints Edward & Isidore Parish.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Sara; three sons, John, Jeff and Mark Laubenstein; his parents, Kenneth and Irene Laubenstein, Sturgeon Bay; eight sisters and one brother and their spouses, Mary (William) Storck, Waupaca; Jayne Hewitt, Sturgeon Bay; Nancy (Patrick) Hammell, West Bend; Carol (William) Roder, Sturgeon Bay; Sue (Randy) Walters, Howard; Lynn (Randy) Modrow, De Pere; Kim (Richard) Summers, Casco; Kathy (David) Thornburg, Fond du Lac; Steve (Kate) Laubenstein, Sturgeon Bay; his father-in-law, Kenneth Seiler, Forestville; nine brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and their spouses; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Laubenstein; his mother-in-law, Veronica Seiler; two brothers-in-law, Gary Hewitt, David Schuster; his maternal grandparents, John and Antonia Tomjanovich; his paternal grandparents, Luella and Walter Laubenstein.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. Friends may also call at Saints Edward & Isidore Catholic Church, 3667 Flintville Rd., Flintville, from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday.
