Francis "Andy" Anderson, 94, Green Bay, passed away peacefully June 24, 2023 with his family by his side. Andy was born October 24, 1928 to Henry and Ernestine Anderson in Escanaba, MI.
He moved to Green Bay shortly after his 8th birthday and remained a resident his entire life. He married the love of his life, June, on March 10, 1950. They celebrated nearly 71 years of marriage before she passed away. Together they shared 7 children.
When his kids were young, Andy traveled to watch countless baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball and hockey games. His children recall special memories of hunting with their Dad, something they all enjoyed very much. He took pride in his children and their accomplishments, both in athletics and in their personal lives. Two of his children followed in his footsteps working in the mill. His oldest served in the military. But most notable, all his children stayed close to home, holding special bonds with their parents their entire lives. This is something both June and Andy were very grateful for.
He was a religious man, attending Nativity of our Lord Parish for many years. He looked forward to Saturday Mass and dinner afterward. It meant a lot to him and his family to have Father Matt and Deacon Mike bless his wife June in her last days, along with the visits they made as his health declined. Praying and giving back was important to Andy.
He was a hardworking man, completing 44 years at James River mill, holding various roles and creating lasting memories with coworkers. After retirement, Andy worked at the Oneida Country Club in the "Shack" handing out candy bars, sodas and often getting an autograph or two from the Packer players that would be out on the course. Those mementos would hang in the Anderson's famous Packer Basement which donned hundreds of golf balls lining the walls. If you've ever been lucky enough to make the trip down there, you'd also see the craftsmanship Andy was known for. He loved woodworking and creating pieces for his loved ones. Many of his children and grandchildren have a piece of furniture, a doll cradle or decoration made by Andy.
Being a season ticket holder and living just across the street from Lambeau field, the Packers were a big part of Andy's life. He enjoyed attending games with his children and grandchildren, only missing a handful of games since getting his seats! In the last few years, parking cars for games would bring him joy! He also looked forward to watching Brewer games with his kids, often getting "numbers" from the tavern and somehow coming out ahead each week!
Andy and June enjoyed a special tradition of spending a month in Florida, where many of their children were able to visit during their stay.
As described by his late wife, Andy was a man of silence and a man of sense. June was the talker, so he didn't have to say much, but a man of sense he was until the very end. Andy read every word of the newspaper each day, he was the absolute best at crossword puzzles and to this day we regret not signing him up for wheel of fortune. Just a few short months ago he bowled a high series of 509, then headed to play cards with the guys like every Thursday for the last 30 years. As his health started to decline, his mind did not. In his last days, he was still asking to get out on the golf course with his kids. Today, we pray he is swinging the clubs and having a beautiful reunion with June up in heaven.
Andy was sharp, educated and truly someone to look up to. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Andy is survived by his children, Gary (Jeannine) Anderson, Susan (Jack) Brieder, Thomas (Colleen) Anderson, Donn (Michelle) Anderson, Tina (Ron) Derenne, Amy (Jane) Anderson, Brett (Ann) Anderson. 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, with another on the way. He is also survived by his spoiled dog, Molly.
