Evelyn (Hemm) Italiano, 83, left us to join her Lord and beloved husband Angelo on
December 30th, 2022
, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on
September 6
, 1939. Evelyn was the only daughter of Nicholas and Laura (Lempel) Hemm. She had three brothers: Nick, Don, and Larry. In a family of three boys, Evelyn was proud to be a bit of a tomboy, playing baseball and sliding down the family banister only to be rewarded with a broken arm. Her rambunctious spirit continued throughout her life. Evelyn always had a mischievous sparkle in those blue eyes and a knowing, ready smile.
In 1958, she met the love of her life, Angelo Italiano, on a blind date when he was on shore leave from the United States Navy. Upon arriving home after the date that evening, she declared "Mom, I've just met the man I'm going to marry!" and on
August 29
, 1959, she did.
The young couple welcomed their son, Michael in 1960 and in 1968, they moved from Milwaukee to Green Bay. Evelyn embraced her new hometown and quickly became a lifelong Packer fanatic, and she was so excited when they were given the opportunity to get season tickets from a family friend.
After moving, they were inspired by a sermon at mass one Sunday to add to their family through adoption, and in
February 1971
, they welcomed daughter Dianne and in
May 1974
, their daughter Catharine. After adding their daughters, they invited her mother to join them in Green Bay and she would live with them until her passing in 1995.
Evelyn was a skilled seamstress, making her own wedding dress and as the family grew, making clothes for everyone, including some questionable father-daughter matching romper sets. She also had a passion for knitting and crocheting, she taught knitting and crocheting classes at NWTI, local craft stores and at home. That passion, energy, and enthusiasm for meeting and making friends who shared a love of creativity led to joining her craft group that met for over 50 years.
If you knew her, you know that she was rarely spotted without a knitting or crocheting project, she took them with her literally everywhere, from car rides, to waiting rooms, to sporting events and even the occasional wedding.
Evelyn was a devout Catholic and lifelong volunteer working with St. Mary's Meals on Wheels program and the Mary Guild. She always donated to and supported The Red Cross of America, and in later years she worked making prayer shawls and working with the St. John the Baptist sewing mission.
She loved card games, vacations, gardening, bowling, her Shelties, and most of all, being a grandmother to her five grandchildren and her many fur grandchildren.
Evelyn is survived by her children and their families; her son, Michael Italiano, his daughter Katelyn, son Anthony and Fiancé Lori; her daughter Dianne (Matt) Bellisle and their sons, Ethan, Nicholas, and Owen; and her daughter Catharine (Tom Soby) Italiano. She is also survived by her six fur grandchildren and one fur great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband Emanuel "Angelo" Italiano, parents Laura and Nicholas Hemm, her in-laws Emanuele and Stella Italiano, her brother Donald Hemm and his wife Arlene, her brother Nicholas Hemm and his wife Betty, and her brother Larry Hemm and his wife Joann. She was preceded by her husband's two sisters, three brothers and their spouses.
Friends and family will gather at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2597 Glendale Ave., (The entrance is directly across from BP gas station on Glendale Ave.) from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on

; Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 a.m. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. To send online condolences, please go to
