Evelyn Marie (Brunette) Cuene, April 8, 1929 - April 7, 2024, was born in Green Bay and died as she lived, with generosity, compassion, humor, and love.
Evie graduated from Cathedral Grade School and East High School in Green Bay. She married Donald Cuene six months after high school graduation, and they lived in Oklahoma for a short while before returning to Green Bay.
Evelyn was a stay-at-home Mom and served many years as a Scout leader for her daughter and a den mother for her two sons. Once her children were in school, she worked part-time in the Brown County Veterans' Memorial Arena ticket office where she made many lasting friendships. She sang with the Chantelles and loved music. Sailing the bay with Don on the "Light Breeze" was a much-enjoyed past-time for many years. Travel filled their early retirement years, first in their motor home and then on tours and cruises.
She was predeceased by Donald, her husband of over 68 years, her parents Irene (Fraire) and Clarence Brunette, her sisters Marion Vander Missen and Catherine Brunette, her brothers Robert and Clarence, Jr ("Duke"), sister-in-law Eleanor Brunette and brother-in-law Clayton Vander Missen, nieces Mary Ellen Brunette, Barbara Brunette, and Judy Dwyer, nephew Jeffery Brunette, Don's parents Marian (Noonan) and Wilfred ("Bill") Cuene, brother-in-law William and his wife Kathy Cuene, sister-in-law Margaret ("Peggy") McGuire and husband Roland, and sister-in-law Virginia Dwyer. She held a special place in her heart for her canine companions over the years, Skipper, Nugget, and Josie.
Evelyn is survived by her children who all reside in Green Bay, son Thomas Cuene and his wife Carol Cassell, her daughter Pamela Baeten and husband Michael Baeten, and her youngest son, Frank Cuene. She dearly loved and was so proud of her grandsons and great-grandchildren, Justin Cuene of Scottsdale, AZ and his children, Sofia and Miles, and Tristan Cuene of Chicago, IL. Also surviving her are sister-in-law Norma Brunette, brother-in-law Patrick Dwyer, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Although her waning health in the last 2 years curtailed many of her activities and interests, that little turned up smile and sparkle in her eyes remained to the end. Evelyn will evoke in her family and friends vivid memories for many years to come.
As a long-time member of St. Joseph Parish in Green Bay, her faith was very important to her, and she was humbled to serve as Eucharistic Minister to the home bound.
Friends and family will gather at St. Joseph Parish, corner of Ninth St. and 12th Ave., from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, April 12; Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11a.m. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband and parents-in-law in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, De Pere. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff at McCormick Assisted Living, St. Paul's Hospice, and Sr Dorothy for the compassion, caring and love they extended to Evie.
