Eugene Fredrick "Gene" Mailhiot, 87, Green Bay, passed away Monday, November 13, 2023. He was born December 17, 1935, in Blue Island, IL to William Mailhiot and Mildred Decker.
On October 20, 1956 Gene married the love of his life, Betty Dowling. They were married at St. Willebrord Catholic Church, in Illinois. Together they had five children. Gene was drafted into the US Army and was stationed in Alaska while he served his country.
Gene and his family moved to Green Bay where they became members at St. Joseph Catholic Church in 1968. He volunteered for the church and was also the director of Religious Education for many years.
Gene enjoyed being outdoors where he fished, worked in the yard, and gardened. He cherished the simple things in life; watching the Packers, doing word searches, and enjoying the occasional chocolate. Above everything else, Gene loved spending time with his family.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Betty; children, Vicki Deneys, David Mailhiot, Steve (Shelly) Mailhiot, Diane Balli, Lisa (Jason) Keneklis; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna Bollero; in-laws, Harold and Helen Dowling; sister-in-law, Delores (Norbert) Froelich.
Friends and family will gather at St. Joseph Catholic Church, corner of Ninth St. and 12th Ave. on Tuesday, November 21 from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
