Elmira Theresa Schauer, 96, Howard, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Tender Hearts Assisted Living. She was born October 14, 1927, in Preble, WI to Harry and Pearl (Panure) Heyrman.
Elmira graduated from East High School. On July 13, 1946, she married Paul L. Schauer at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Together they shared 62 incredible years. He preceded her in death on January 9, 2009. Elmira was an avid bowler, loved to golf, enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and spending time at the cottage. She enjoyed the many trips she took with Paul and friends, especially those she spent with the Walters family at Spring Creek Colony in Montana. She thought of them as her second family. Elmira and Paul loved children and had 50 foster children over 25 years. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross blood drives and was a super gallon donor of 50 gallons. Elmira was a bowling secretary for over 25 years. She enjoyed gardening, baking, and crocheting afghans for her friends, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was also a member of the Christian Mothers for over 60 years and volunteered for various groups at church over the years. Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Mary Ann Verheyden, Gary (Janice) Schauer; grandchildren, Dr. James (Dr. Jean) Verheyden, Christin (Jon) Waldburger, Jeremy (Maxine) Schauer, Shelly (Dan) Reznichek; great-grandchildren, James Paul, Elizabeth, Eric Verheyden, Richard Jon "RJ", Paul Waldburger, Samantha, Cassandra Schauer, Alexandra, Adelyn, Andrew Reznichek; sister-in-law, Marian Schauer, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Elmira was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; son-in-law, Richard Verheyden; parents, Harry and Pearl; sisters, Dolores (Richard) Semrau, JoAnn (Robert) Diring; brother, Myron (Doris) Heyrman; in laws, Raymond, Joe (Marcella), John (Dorothy), Cletus Schauer, Marie (Hubert) Rentmeester, Clara (Walter) Vanderkelen.
