Ellen Maas, 94, Howard, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. She was born March 12, 1928, in Green Bay to William and Vida (Nickel) Berry.

Ellen graduated from West High School then worked in a variety of positions She married Lester Harring and together they had nine daughters. Her home was filled with her children and her days filled with providing for them by sewing, baking, cooking, canning and gardening. Ellen took great pride in caring for her daughters and the home she made for them. She loved to clean and kept an immaculate home, even when her mobility became challenged.  Once the girls were all in school, she went back to work as a purchasing agent at the Green Bay Reformatory.

After Lester died in 1991, she married Jim Maas in 1998. Their love was sweet and their life together simple. They rode bikes, entertained in nursing homes throughout Green Bay, recorded music for You Tube (Jim Maas), played innumerable scrabble games, watched old movies, followed all Wisconsin sport teams and enjoyed every minute together. Ellen was smart, witty, articulate and well-read. She cherished her flower gardens each year and loved watching the wildlife in her backyard.  She and Jim were early morning regulars at the YMCA in Howard. There she had a bounty of friends whom she loved dearly and of whom she spoke fondly.

Ellen loved the Lord.  Her faith was an important part of her life, and it led her through both good and difficult times. She was immensely grateful for all she had and for all the people in her life. Ellen lived a remarkable life and had a positive impact on everyone she met.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; children, Janice (Ira) Harring-Hendon, Nancy Jo (Larry Bitters) Harring, Doreen (Jack) Michals, Beth (Michael) Trudell, Amy (Jeff) Tappen, Lori (Peter) Bernard, Kristine (Keith) Walker; many grandchildren and great grandchildren;  sons-in-law, Dave Yuhasey, Dave Srenaski; sister, Katy (Ken) Trachte, nieces and nephews and many friends.

Ellen was preceded in death by her first husband, Lester Harring; daughters, Sandy Christofferson, Mary Yuhasey; her parents, a brother, a sister, and son-in-law, Dave Braley.
