Eileen Mary Dwyer passed away on August 1, 2025, at the age of 98. She was born in Green Bay on September 1, 1926, to George and Ella Kispert. A lifelong Green Bay resident, Mom was partial to the West Side and lived there her entire life, graduating from West High School in 1943. One smart lady, she dreamed of becoming an English teacher. While she never accomplished that, she did correct our grammar her entire life, including during her dying days.
Mom married our father, Eugene Dwyer, on November 15, 1947. They were grade school sweethearts and their love endured until his passing on April 30, 2008. Dad even married her after she voted Republican. Once. And the Dwyers threatened to disown her. Together they raised five children. Mom started working for Mary Morgan Employment Agency once her children were all in school and finished up her career at Bur Wholesale.
She was a woman of many talents: a wonderful cook, an amazing pie maker (don't even get us started on her rhubarb and peach), told a good dirty joke and was a very talented oil painter. Mom took up painting later in life and was prolific (we should have known - she doodled all through our childhood while talking on the phone). Our homes are lucky to have numerous paintings.
In 1973, Mom and Dad bought their cottage on the bay in Dyckesville. It was that or an above-ground pool and, thankfully, the cottage won out. What a magical place it turned out to be. Sleepovers, bonfires, Old Joe stories - the grandkids reigned supreme. It holds a special place in all our hearts.
Our parents loved to travel and, as exciting as seeing new places could be, it was always done with friends or to go visit family and friends. New York, Florida, California, Las Vegas, Texas, New Orleans...the destination was great but being with people ranked higher.
Mom never passed up a good card game, a decent old fashioned, a glass of white wine or any sweet. She had an extensive network of friends and was a social butterfly. They definitely knew how to have fun and organized many creative parties. But nothing was as important to her as her family. As loved as we children were, it was her grandchildren who really lit up her life.
Survived by children: Susan Metzger, Mary (Paul) Mongin, Michael (Kathy) Dwyer, Ellen (Bernie) Walenski, Lynn (Curt Lefevre) Dwyer. Grandchildren: Nora Metzger; Andy and Tim (Angie Cash) Mongin, Kate (Adam) Lewitzke; Joe (Cally), Alex (Brittney) and Dan (Jess) Dwyer; Christy and Jenny Walenski, Kelly (Jason) Cox; Michael (Allison), Will (Ashley McHose) and Ned Lefevre. Great-grandchildren: Benji, Lyla, Cora, Rose, Anna, Madeline, Emily, Jack, Lincoln, Chloe, Noah, Oakley, Finn, Ella, Sam, Owen, Elliot, Brooke (James), Nicholas, Alyssa, Emma, Samantha, Tess, Macy, Murphie and Mira. Great-great grandchildren: Paisley, Bristol and Lakelynn; brother-in-law, Patrick Dwyer. Many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents; sisters Ruth (Ken) Radick and Elnore (Lloyd) Nesberg; son-in-law Stanley Metzger; in-laws Clement "Dutch" and Ruby Dwyer, Thomas "Mike" (Jeanie) Dwyer, Virginia Dwyer; nephew Gerald Radick and niece Judy Dwyer.
Friends and family will gather at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 211 N. Maple Ave., from 10:30am to 12pm (NOON) on Saturday, September 13; Mass of Christian Burial to follow at NOON. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
