Edwin John Basinski Sr.

Hi, I'm Edwin ("Ed" "Chuck" and "Mr. Ed") and I spent my last day on earth surrounded by my children on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at St. Mary's Hospital at the age of 90. I was born Edwin John Basinski on July 14, 1936, on one of the hottest days on record, in Green Bay to Edwin and Athlene (Monfils) Basinski.

When I was young, I attended grade school at St. Peter and Paul until 9th grade when I went to Washington Middle School. I then attended Green Bay East High School, where I graduated in 1955. Some of my fondest memories were playing football in high school and middle school. I played left tackle and wore number 99. Those sure were a great group of guys. While in high school, I also spent my summers as a lifeguard.

After graduating, I began working at Pauly's Cheese for a couple of years and then went to Northern Paper Mill for a couple more. It wasn't until March 2, 1963, that I found my true calling. It was that day I began working for the City of Green Bay as a police officer. I served the city for 31 years before retiring as a Captain. Shortly after retiring, I began umpiring baseball and softball games. During those years I got married to Charlene DeMille on July 5, 1958. Together we had five wonderful children. Life was busy, but I still made time to volunteer for a program called Teens Encounter Christ (T.E.C.), helping bring the word of Christ to area teens was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life!

I am survived by my children, Brian (Karen) Basinski, Susan Wickman, Sally (Jim Mier) Basinski, Shannon Hafeman; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

I was preceded in death by my wife, Charlene; son, Edwin Jr. Basinski; my parents; brother, Harold "Buzz" (Cleo) Basinski; sisters, Pat DeGrand, Barbara (Harvey) Roffers, Shirley (Mel) Lardo; great-grandson, Lesiah Van Enkenvoort; parents-in-law, Richard and Ione DeMille; sister-in-law, Pat (Roger) Boettcher; brothers-in-law, Jack DeMille, Russ DeMille; nephew, Jon Boettcher; niece, Diane DeGrand; and friend, Mike Wendricks.

I am inviting my family and friends to gather at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday, September 22; followed by the Parish Wake and sharing of memories at 7pm. Visitation will resume at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1420 Division Street, from 10am to 11am on Wednesday, September 23; followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11am.
