Edward "Eddie" John Wirtz, 94, Green Bay, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024. He was born November 30, 1930, in Green Bay to Clement and Florence (Raynen) Wirtz.
Eddie graduated from Catholic Central High School. He joined the Marines and was stationed in the Carolinas. Eddie had many jobs including Allis-Chalmers in Milwaukee, unloading boats at the Green Bay docks, driving truck, working at a foundry, and at Northwest Engineering. In 1961 he joined the Green Bay Police Department as a "beat cop" and was familiar with many local businesses and their owners. Eddie was on Vince Lombardi's first security team. He had many stories of Lombardi and other notable players. Eddie rose in the ranks of the Police Department to Senior Detective and taught many young officers along the way. He retired in 1986.
Eddie met Ann A. Brylski while she was a nursing student. They married in September 1954. Together they had five children. Eddie and Ann enjoyed traveling, golfing, supper clubbing, and going to the horse races at Arlington Race Track. Ann preceded him in death in 1991.
He is survived by his children, Linda (Don) Vogt, Peter (Connie) Wirtz, Daniel (Kim) Wirtz, Joanne (Patrick Boex) Wirtz; grandchildren, Brad Lukasik, Sarah (Matthew) Creapeau, Benjamin (Hilary) Vogt, Christian Wirtz, Noah Wirtz, Lucas Wirtz; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Creapeau, Liam Creapeau; brother, Steve Wirtz; sister, Judy Kellner; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Eddie was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; son, John; parents, Clem and Florence; siblings, Robert, Clem, Clarice, Donna, and Carol; second wife, Helen.
Friends and family will gather at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (NOON) on Monday, December 23; Funeral Service to follow at 12 p.m. (NOON). Entombment will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Eddie's name.
