Doris Rose Townsend, 94, Green Bay, passed away Monday, December 18, 2023. She was born December 3, 1929, in Faribault, MN to Albert and Ida (King) Swee.
Doris lived on a farm with her family. After her mother passed away, she and her siblings were adopted by her grandparents, Frederick and Rosalie (Doneux) King. When her grandmother Rosalie passed away in 1932, her aunt Evelyn King moved in to raise the children. The determination of the King family to keep the children together created a special bond between the siblings that never ebbed.
Doris graduated from Faribault High School, Class of 1947. After graduating, she moved to Minneapolis and worked in payroll for SuperValu where she met her husband, Jim. Doris married James "Jim" Townsend on September 22, 1956. He preceded her in death in May of 1989. Together Jim and Doris enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Hawaii and Italy. She was proud to be a Packer fan season ticket holder and attended every home game with Jim until his passing. Doris remained an avid Packer fan and enjoyed watching games and listening to callers on the postgame radio show. She enjoyed spending time outside, tending to her plants and yard, doing crossword puzzles, golfing, and bowling. Doris loved to babysit and spend time with her grandchildren. She was always upbeat and in a good mood, and she would frequently sing "it's a lovely day today!" Doris was happiest spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Mike Townsend; daughters, Mary Townsend, Janet (Pat) Doherty; grandchildren, Kaila (Zach) LaBonte, Evan Doherty (Rachel Reynolds); great-grandchildren, Harper LaBonte, Cooper LaBonte; sister-in-law, Janet (Ron) Trimble; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; brothers Richard, Fran, Fritz, and Ray Swee; twin brother, Jimmy Swee; her parents, grandparents and aunt, Evelyn King.
