Donald T. Bunker, 94, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. He was born March 18, 1931 in Oconto to Thomas and Adella (Zeroth) Bunker. On Sept 1, 1952, just one month prior to entering the Army, he married Patricia Griesman in Green Bay whom he met working in the laundry at Emmanual Missionary College (now Andrews University). Don proudly served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954. During his service, he was stationed with the 224th Infantry as a Medic during the Korean War. Upon returning to Wisconsin, Don attended Wisconsin State College in Milwaukee and was the first graduating class after Wisconsin State College merged to become the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1957. He taught in the Milwaukee School System for his first year at Stueben Junior High as a teacher. Don and Patricia made Green Bay their home in 1958 and he accepted a teaching position at Elmore Elementary School. While Don was teaching at Elmore Elementary School in the Green Bay area, he was also attending Andrews University, graduating in 1962 with a Master's Degree in Administration. Don became the principal for Tank Elementary in 1962. Subsequent schools were Chapell and Doty. In 1990, Don had the great fortune to retire as the principal of Elmore Elementary. After his retirement, Don remained as a mentor for teachers and he enjoyed staying involved with the retired men's club.
Seeing a need in society, Don along with several other community members, started the Ashwaubenon Rescue Squad in 1974 and continued to volunteer until 1989. Don was not one to stay idle for too long. He started volunteering at Bellin Hospital until his final retirement in 2005. Retirement was filled with many trips throughout the world with Patricia by his side. These travels gave him the opportunity to try his hand at photography. He and Patricia kept their minds engaged their whole life together, whether it was at Learning in Retirement classes or keeping up with new technology to keep them in touch with society and their family. Don had learned stained glass and there are many projects that are enjoyed by his family.
Ministry was important to Don and Patricia. They were longtime members of Green Bay Seventh-day Adventist Church where they enjoyed Bible studies and maintained many strong friendships through their 54 year involvement in the Card Ministry.
Don is survived by his wife, Patricia; four children, Dale Bunker, Jonathan (Cheryl) Bunker, Leon (Cindy) Bunker, Kathy (Dan) Gimbel; fourteen grandchildren, Jessica, Allison (Brent), Bradley (Samantha), Brittany (Phillip), Steven (Anna), Samuel (Lindsay), Abby, Bethany, Brianna, Evan (Molly), Alex, Anna, Grant, Emilie (Jake); great-grandchildren, Sierra, Dawson, Quinn, Ace, Tyler, Emery, Liam, Ian, Noelle, Greer, Luke; brothers-in-law, Richard Griesman and Vernon (Benita) Griesman.
