David W. Verhaagh, 86, Green Bay, Wisconsin, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2026. He was born October 27, 1939, in Green Bay to Leo and Genevieve (Destiche) Verhaagh.

Dave grew up in Howard, Wisconsin, on the family farm and attended grade school at St. John the Baptist before graduating from Premontre High School. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Pendleton and Camp Lejeune.

Following his military service, he worked as a switchman for the Chicago & North Western Railroad and took on a variety of other jobs, including roofing and flipping houses. He was someone who could-and would-fix just about anything, although many of his projects often seemed to end with a few extra parts left over. His love for antiquing was a joy, especially for his repairing and building skills.

Dave loved cars and trucks, particularly finding them at car auctions and bringing them home to fix and sell. Over the years, his collection included some memorable and iconic vehicles, including a Charlie's Angels-inspired blue-striped Mustang, a Rockford Files-style army green Camaro, and a white Cannon Lincoln Continental. He also owned a light-blue 1957 Chevy and, at various times, Volkswagen Beetles in nearly every color imaginable.

He loved to eat, although he was almost always on a diet. Breakfast was a particularly important part of his day, and he rarely missed his morning meal at the Bay Motel, where he enjoyed the company and friendly banter of his dear friends and the staff.

A devout Catholic, Dave attended Mass daily whenever he was able, most recently at St. Agnes Catholic Church. His faith was an important part of his life.

When he wasn't fixing something, working on a car, or enjoying breakfast with friends, he could often be found watching television-especially Green Bay Packers games or episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond.

Dave will be remembered for his fierce loyalty and his easy laugh. He was a protector of the underdog and never hesitated to lend a hand to a friend, family member, or even a stranger in need. He had a knack for getting into a little mischief (trouble), and a genuine willingness to help others-qualities that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Dave is survived by his children, Paula (Antonio Torres) McKay, John Verhaagh; a granddaughter Lily McKay; and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Genevieve; brothers, Thomas, Dennis, Peter and Paul; and sisters, Donna Drabes, Mary Catherine Verhaagh.
