David Alex Suemnick, 85, Green Bay, passed away January 8th, 2025. Dave was born in Mauston, WI to Alex and Marguerite (O'Donnelly) Suemnick. He grew up in Elroy, WI alongside his younger sister Denise. Dave's family moved to Denmark, WI when he was a Freshman in High School. There he played football for coach John Hickey who became one of his lifelong friends. Coach Hickey once told Dave not to be a quitter and he carried that mantra forward for the rest of his life despite the adversity and challenges he faced. Dave spent 7 years at Marquette University where he graduated with a law degree. He moved back to Denmark, the small town that he loved, married Sandy Chapman and together they raised their four children there. Dave's love of the outdoors and camping, reading and small-town sports is what he shared with his children. Along with St. John the 23rd church in a basement where families believed in loving thy neighbor with kindness and acceptance. Although the relationship with Sandy wasn't permanent, they remained good friends and supported each other's new families with that same kindness and acceptance.

In 1982, Dave found sobriety in AA and has been a steadfast member for almost 43 years. Through AA he has sponsored many: sharing wisdom and a listening ear or a quiet space. This also brought him the love of his life, Karen Ludwig. Dave and Karen have been lovingly married for 32 years. Some of their favorite memories include traveling to Ireland, taking long walks together, their love of reading, and trips to Door County. They also shared their love with their beloved dogs, Shadow, Sally, Stella and Bo.

Dave practiced law throughout his career. He retired after many years as legal counsel with American Medical Security. Although retired, Dave found purpose in using his legal expertise to help others.

One of Dave's favorite pastimes in the last 15 years was attending every basketball game of his three local grandsons. You could find Dave at a gym every weekend and most weeknights as well. He was their number one fan and did not miss a chance to see them compete. He was so proud and would tell anyone who asked.

Dave found deep personal fulfillment with all the people he met throughout his life. Family to him was anyone he called his friend.

Dave is survived by his loving wife Karen; children, Sarah (John) Rahhal, Mary (Phil) Heim, Mike (Kelly) Suemnick, Maggie (Mark) Tomashek, Colleen Keogh; grandchildren, Matthew Rahhal, Michael (Miranda) PreFontaine, Jacob PreFontaine, Taylor (Morgan) Heim, Hayden Heim, Patrick Suemnick, Marcus Tomashek, Drew Tomashek, Jeffrey (Courtney) Keogh, Devin Heuvelman, Cole Daeschel; great grandchild, Amelia Keogh and her mother, Jamie Keogh.
