David "Dave" L. Kolf, 94, Hobart, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024. He was born September 21, 1929, in Oshkosh to Paul J. and Pauline E. (Lyon) Kolf.
David graduated from Oshkosh High School, Class of 1947. He went on to attend UW – Madison for two years and began working for First National Bank in Oshkosh. Through his work he met and courted Joyce Janke. In September of 1950 he accepted a position in the Machine Accounting Department at Wisconsin Public Service Corp. During the Korean War Dave was drafted into the U.S. Army in March of 1951. He spent most of his service in Yokohama, Japan with the 77th Ordnance Stock Control Detachment. In February of 1953 he was honorably discharged.
Dave married Joyce on June 6, 1953. Together they had five children, three of them dying at midterm due to miscarriage. His daughter, Karen was born in Feb 1955 and his son, Steven was born in August of 1959. Joyce preceded him in death on Feb 3, 1986, as a result of breast cancer. Dave renewed an old friendship with Carol Pasowicz, a prior coworker and widow. After a long courtship the two were married on May 4, 1991. Together they celebrated 32 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on May 6, 2023.
He was able to retire from Wisconsin Public Service on June 1, 1991. In the fall of 1993, Dave and Carol started attending Highland Crest Baptist Church. It was here that they heard to Gospel preached. Both Dave and Carol turned their lives over to Jesus asking him to be their Lord and Savior. David was very involved in the church. Dave and Carol went on a handful of mission trips through Highland Crest Baptist Church, which took them to Brazil, Alaska and Mexico and had many pictures and fond memories of their experiences.
Following heart bypass surgery, both David and Carol became involved in volunteering at Bellin Hospital cardiac surgery waiting area. Eventually they began to volunteer in other areas at Bellin over the next 20 years. As part of David's cardiac rehab post-surgery, he was encouraged to join the fitness center and spouses were invited to join, which quickly became a regular part of their routine. They spent many hours working out multiple times throughout the week. Dave and Carol were in a bowling league together and also have many fond memories of yearly vacations to the Wisconsin Public Service lodge in the summertime.
He is survived by his son, Steve (Clara) Kolf; daughter, Karen (Dana) Miller; stepchildren, Steve Pasowicz, Karen (Tim) Engels, MaryAnn (Rick) Salmon, Julie (Dan) Kielar, Stan Pasowicz; grandchildren, Kristin, Cheryl; 11 step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Aria, Braeden, Jack, Michael; one step-greatgrandchild; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
David was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce; second wife, Carol; brothers, Thomas Kolf, Richard Kolf; sister, Mary Jane Meyer; stepson, Florian Michael Pasowicz.
