With a million tears in my eyes my husband and best friend for 32 years, Daniel Murphy, has passed on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. We met in Alaska in May of 1989 and married in October of 1989. When you know you know! Not long after that we had Lucas Leo Murphy and two years later Max Daniel Murphy.
Dan was born in Massachusetts in 1964 and the U.S. Army brought him to Alaska. He was an avid Boston fan for all Boston teams. He tried out for the Red Sox and made two cuts. Dan played hockey as well and rode his bike to practice every day with his bag on his back. Our boys followed in his footsteps and played baseball and hockey. He coached both boys alternating years in both sports. He will be forever remembered as a great coach in youth hockey, and still be known as "Coach" by many of the kids.
In the summer, we went to White Potato Lake every weekend. He loved that my Dad would have lists of things he needed help with. They had a bond like father and son. Dan was self-employed starting with flooring. He then started remodeling which turned into building houses. He chose to name is business LuMax construction after his boys.
Dan took two years off to sell cars. After that he looked into getting a franchise, which led him to open up Postnet for four years. For the last 13 years Dan was employed with Broadway Automotive.
He loved to watch football and was a true Patriots fan, especially Tom Brady, with whom he shared a birthday with. The last two years we traveled to see Tom Brady play in the warmer months in Miami and Houston. Unfortunately, we didn't get to make it to a Buccaneers game. Living in Green Bay all these years, the Packers were a very close second. He always called the Patriots "America's Team". Golf was another sport he loved to play. Dan had the honor of meeting Arnold Palmer and playing his course in Florida.
Dan will be deeply missed by his wife, Sandy and children, Lucas, Max (Lauren Klasen); his family, Jim and Norma Murphy, Liz Murphy Short, Denise O'Rourke, Cheryl Andrews, Kimberly and Matt Mullin, Dan and Karen Stankevitz; and his mother-in-law, Dona Stankevitz; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will forever cherish the memories of his Dewey Decker Drive neighbors.
Dan will be welcomed by his Mom and Dad; his sister, Linda; and his "other Dad" Orv Stankevitz.
Visitation will be held at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave. from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, October 2; followed by the Funeral Service at 6 p.m. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com .
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Danny's promise to Sandy, Lucas, Max and Lauren is: "I promise that in time, memories of our loved ones will bring a smile instead of tears, but it will take time."
