SSG RET USMC, Daniel "Dan" C. Borchert, 63, Neenah, died, unexpectedly from a heart condition, Sunday, February 18, 2024.  He was born October 22, 1960, in Neenah, WI to Myron and Karen (Borchardt) Borchert.

Dan graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran High School, Class of 1979.  After high school he joined the United States Marine Corps and served as a fuel specialist.  Dan loved his time in the service and served faithfully through several deployments.  After his time on active duty, he returned home and began a career with Apvion Paper Company (formerly, Appleton Coated). He worked there for over 25 years and made many wonderful friends before his retirement in 2015. Dan valued his time in the service so much, that after 9/11 happened he re-enlisted into the United States Marine Corps Reserve and continued serving his country, going on another deployment to Fallujah Iraq in 2006.  He eventually retired as a Staff Sergeant, with over 20 years of service in the USMC, creating lasting friendships and memories along the way.  He still kept in touch with many of the friends he made in the service and enjoyed traveling to visit them when he could.  Dan loved a good auction, and one of his favorite things was free picking day at "the free store" (the dump).  He enjoyed going out for breakfasts or any meal really, especially if he was meeting with friends. Dan recently found enjoyment in taking care of his land, especially planting all kinds of new trees.  He also liked the times he was able to spend with his nephew, John, on the family farm.

Dan is survived by his mother and step-father, Karen (Bob Manteufel) Borchert; sister, Mashelle (Kevin) Ozment; brother, Thomas (Lisa) Borchert; nephew, John (fiancé, Megan Lone) Borchert; nieces, Susan (Matthew) Delaney, Amanda (Tavis) Wilson; aunt, Emily Rau, cousins; Deborah (Shawn) Kienert, David (Jenny) Rau, Bob (Chrissy) Rau, Lisa (Scott) MacWilliam, Russ (Karen) Borchardt, David (Kathy) Borchardt, Sue (Pat) Jasen, Greg (Shan Shan) Borchardt, Kim Borchardt, Kris Borchardt, Scott Borchardt; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Myron Borchert; grandparents, Walter and Irma Borchert, and Carl and Gertrude Borchardt; aunt, Ella Mae Borchert; uncles, Daniel Rau, Karleton (Sylvia) Borchardt, and Curtis (Cynthia) Borchardt; and a cousin, John Borchardt.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Borchert Family Farm, 8761 St. Rd. 76, Neenah, WI. A short prayer service will be held at 3 p.m. followed by military honors.  Burial will take place at the Clayton Town Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dan's name.
