Dale Joseph Weiland, 87, of Green Bay, WI, passed away on May 5, 2025, after a long battle with dementia. He was born in Sioux Falls, SD on January 24, 1938, to the late Wilbur and Leona (Beaner) Weiland.
Dale lived in several states including South Dakota, Minnesota and Texas with his family, before settling in Wisconsin. He graduated from Premontre High School, class of 1956, and then served 4 years in the Marine Corps. He followed in his father's footsteps and worked for the Milwaukee Road Railroad as a conductor. After retiring from the railroad, he and his wife, Joan Weiland, co-owned and operated Werbelow Beverage in Shawano, WI, he owned and drove a dump truck, he worked for Event USA in Green Bay, and he did volunteer work at Bellin Hospital. He could never sit still very long, always busy with projects, including building two homes, his cottage in Athelstane, WI and demolishing multiple old railroad depots.
Dale loved nature and being outdoors, planting trees, landscaping and collecting rocks. He frequently was "up north" at the cottage, hunting with his son, Chris, or just enjoying the woods. He never missed a chance to go camping, especially with his family and friends. He enjoyed going to auctions and collecting unusual items. Dale loved helping others with whatever they needed, pitching in on any job. He did countless projects for his children, friends and other relatives over the years. He loved taking long drives in search of new adventures or finding a good place to have breakfast.
Dale was a joy to be around with his big smile and quick laugh. He made you feel like everything was going to work out OK. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather and his family meant everything to him. Dale's active life slowed down when he was diagnosed with dementia, and he spent his final years quietly. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Dale is survived by his loving wife, Joan Weiland; Siblings Charles (Rosie) Weiland, James (Nancy) Weiland, Mary Weiland Eigner; Children, Mark Weiland, Jodi (Darrin) Pelegrin Blades, Julie (Steven) Pelegrin Butler, Jeremy (fiance Bob Hileman) Pelegrin; Grandchildren, Amber (Tyler) Weiland Plamann, Dominic, Joseph and Melanie Butler; and Great-granddaughters Riley and Riverlyn Plamann. He is further survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, son Chris Weiland, brother Paul Weiland, brother Ronald Weiland, sister-in-law Alvina Weiland, nephew Chip Weiland and many aunts and uncles.
Dale's family would like to express a sincere thank you to the nurses at Moments Hospice and the staff at Alpha Senior Concepts in Suamico, WI, for their compassionate care of Dale during his last years.
Friends and family will gather at SS. Edward & Isidore Parish, 3667 Flintville Rd., from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13; Mass to follow at 11 a.m. Military Honors will conclude the service. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
