Clayton A. Maloney (1929- 2025) died peacefully on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. He was born in Green Bay to George and Kate (Karbowski) Maloney. He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School and St. Norberts College. Clayton served in the U.S. Army between 1951-1953. On March 29,1952, he married Rita Kaster of Green Bay. Together, they raised seven daughters.
Clayton taught business/math classes, and coached football and basketball at Premontre High School, always using his leadership position to instill values that were central to his core: integrity, consistency, discipline, and teamwork. Later, he worked as an accountant for several local businesses.
As a gifted athlete, Clayton excelled at football, basketball, handball, and racquetball. His life-long passion, however, was golf. He could be found on the links every Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning for most of his adult life. He loved to reminisce about his victory at the 1967 Brown County Golf Tournament where he shot a hole in one, an eagle, another eagle, and a birdie.
As a dedicated member of St. Agnes Parish, he contributed in many capacities. He served on the parish council, distributed communion, and volunteered as a liturgist. Clayt's spiritual belief of service to others was demonstrated in numerous ways. He visited the shut-ins each week to ensure they received company and communion. Throughout his life, he contributed over 40 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross, adopted rescue dogs, and provided for the needs of people with cognitive disabilities. His signature farewell to his daughters was always, "Be kind, be generous & give blood."
With an aptitude for cards, Clayton earned the title of Ruby Life Master bridge player. He also enjoyed cribbage, connected deeply to dogs, appreciated many kinds of music, the joy of dancing, and a well-made Brandy Manhattan.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Rita, four brothers, and granddaughter, Nicole. He is survived by his children, Mary, Ann, Peggy, Katy, Sue, Colleen, and Ellen, and his sister, Joyce. Clayton has nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Blessed with many close friends throughout his remarkable life, Clayton arrived at the 19th hole with the grace and steadiness that he played the first 18. "Well done, good and faithful servant." Mathew 25:21
