Obituary

Charlene A Sievert would never have considered herself an amazing person, but to those of us whose lives will be a little less bright by her absence she most certainly was.

Char was an avid genealogist, and we spent many happy hours doing research into our family tree, driving around Wisconsin scouring small cemeteries for headstones and investigating ancestors' history. For future generations of researchers who will be so excited when they find this obit, we're going to give them some of the good stuff. Char never married but she was loved to pieces by her nieces and nephews. I'm going to list biologically who is who.

Char's date of birth was February 17, 1933, in Reeseville, Wisconsin and her date of death was April 4, 2025, in Green Bay Wisconsin.

Char was born to her mother Nellie MacNeill Sievert and her father Charles Clauss Sievert. She is the last surviving of her sisters who were the Sievert girls: Roseanne Warren, Jeanne Anderson, Helen Geniesse, IdaMae Woodford, and Nancy Sievert.

Roseanne and William H Warren Jr.: W Hal and Huijene; Dana M and Linnea (Mcpherson)

Jeanne J and Richard V Anderson: Eric H (deceased) and Mary Jo (Kempinger) their children Grahm and Claire; Geoffrey R and Elizabeth (Westover) and their children Teresa and Amie; Chritopher M and Sheri (Zeutzius) and their children Jessica and Phillip

Helen C and Richard Geniesse: Catherine H (Geniesse) and Dennis Cooper and Patricia A (Geniesse) and Scot F Vandersteen and their children Paul (deceased) and Kevin

IdaMae and Williard Woodford and their child David L and Bonnie (Thurston)

The family moved from 'down home' to Green Bay in 1937 and Char remained a lifelong resident of Green Bay. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1951. She worked for Dunn & Bradstreet for many years. In 1968 Char purchased her home, an accomplishment that was almost unheard of for a single woman at that time. Even though at the last minute the male bank manager increased the amount of her down payment, Char persevered, and it was an accomplishment she was extremely proud of.

Many of us know her for the other jobs that she did. For generations of us she was our boss as the head usher at the Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena. Whether it was All Star Wrestling, Holiday on Ice, a musical concert, or Bobcat Hockey, she made sure her ushers were in place to show attendees to their correct seats. She was a great boss and backed up her 'girls', if there was any trouble, all you needed to do was get Char and you knew things would be handled!

Char was also the first tour guide when guided tours were stared at Lambeau Field. Having been a Packer's season ticket holder since the late 1950's, before Lambeau Field was even built, she was eminently qualified for that position and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with guests from across the country and around the world. With the help of her nephew, she self-published a book sharing some of her more interesting memories titled 'Just One More Thing Before We Go'.

Speaking of people from around the world Char traveled extensively with her sister Nancy, frequently looking for answers to genealogy questions in ancestral homelands in Europe. It never failed to bring them great joy when they would be halfway around the world and run into other Packer fans! When the Packer cruises began Char and Nancy took full advantage of those travel opportunities and made many friends with other passengers and Packer players alike. Char was an avid collector of Packer memorabilia and some of her best memories and friends were made waiting in line to obtain signatures of Packer players.

Char was incredibly active in her community. She volunteered at the main library putting together reading packages for new mothers and the annual book sale. For many years Char decorated the neighbor sign for her area as each season changed. She also worked at marathon races, making sure the runners were checked in and as always made lifelong friends. She worked tirelessly for her church including the annual rummage sale, reveling in being responsible for the holiday table.

No remembrance of Char could possibly be complete without talking about Christmas. Oh, how Char loved Christmas. Her goal every year was to find the largest real Christmas tree for her living room that she could find. Her church tree lot had instructions to keep their eye out to put the biggest one they had aside for her. Weeks of decorating had every inch of her house in all it's Christmas glory. There was a Christmas tree in EVERY room. Trees had specific themes: Irish, Packers, dolls, fairies, and they could change from year to year. She opened her house to family and friends to come and experience the wonder she created. It was absolutely magical!!

There are so many things I know I am not mentioning, the hot air balloon ride, her love of Dancing with the Stars, Phi Beta Kappa, Daughters of Isabella, lunches with her grade school friends well into her 80's, her lovely neighbors that looked out for her and helped her with her yard and shoveling when it finally got too much for her. I don't know how to thank you enough for everything you did. All the people who walked by or cycled past as she sat on her deck and brought so much joy.

Friends and family will gather at Annunciation Catholic Church, 401 Gray St., from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 10; Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 AM.
