Carol Ruth Kahnert Andersen, age 93, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2023, in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Carol was born May 4, 1930, in Des Moines, Iowa to Henry and Leona (Lindall) Kahnert.
Carol grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1948. She attended Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin and graduated with an English degree in 1952. She married James A. Andersen in St. Paul, Minnesota on June 6, 1953.
Carol taught English at Wisconsin high schools in Drummond (1952-1953), Arkansas (1953-1954) and St. Joseph's Academy in Green Bay (1969-1980). She taught freshman and senior English classes, and especially enjoyed her Shakespeare and Creative Writing classes.
Carol and Jim were very active in their churches. Together with brother-in-law Bill and sister-in-law Barbara, Carol and Jim built their family cabin on Surprise Lake that numerous relatives and friends enjoyed over the decades. The Big Andersen Trip of 1971 took the family from Wisconsin, across the country to California and back, hitting most of America's scenic highlights, visiting friends and family along the way. After retirement, Carol and Jim traveled to Florida every year where they met new friends from all over the country. Carol also traveled across the United States and Europe.
Carol was an excellent, creative cook who enjoyed sharing her talents with family and friends. This included the Katers Drive neighborhood group that shared dinners and activities in the Green Bay area. One of her proudest moments was passing her swimming test after taking lessons in her 40s at the Oneida Fitness Center. Carol's dear cousins, Connie, Betty and Georgeanne were best friends for her entire life. When Carol moved back to Minnesota she developed a close friendship with her cousin Sharon, which was a blessing.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Mark) Hadlich of Grand Forks, ND; son, John "Jack" (Mary Beth Duginski) Andersen of Neenah, WI; daughter, Linda (Gregg) Johnson of Chaska, MN; grandchildren, Jack (Abbey) Hadlich, Andrew (Jaclyn) Hadlich, Mark (Megan) Andersen, Nicholas (Lydia) Andersen, Luke (Lucas) Andersen Zigler, Lindsay (Lambert) Brown, and Ben (Sarah) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Madilyn, Harper, Sutton, Rosemary, Allison, Adeline, Eloise, Jaxon, Ashlyn, Chalene, Brooklyn, William and Audrey; beloved nieces, Circe, Giulia and Kristin (Greg) and nephew, Tim (Mary).
Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James; parents, Henry and Leona; siblings, Barbara Kahnert Palumbo and John Kahnert; brother-in-law, William Andersen, sister-in-law, Barbara Andersen; and great-granddaughter Raelyn Hadlich.
