On June 6, 1962 he enlisted in the US Air Force, serving for two years in Anchorage, Alaska; during the time of the Alaskan Earthquake.  He then served in Washington DC where he was honorably discharged  on June 7, 1966.  After his discharge, Bruce started his  40 year career at SuperValu where he developed many friendships.

On August 31, 1968, he married Judith A.
