Betty Jane Kubiak, 85, Green Bay, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 9, 2016. She was born on August 5, 1930, to Stanley and Gertrude (Michalski) Charneski.
On January 29, 1949 she married her West High School sweetheart and the love of her life, Jerry Kubiak in Green Bay. Betty and Jerry were a team from the beginning. They started out their humble beginnings first as cabinet makers, then moving to homebuilding and eventually becoming one of the area's largest and most respected pool builders of their time. After their business obligations were complete, Betty and Jerry loved to travel in their motor home and enjoyed trips to Vegas where they also lived for a short period of time.
They spent their retirement years on a wooded 14-acre lot in the southwest part of Green Bay where they enjoyed their horses, goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, cats, dogs and a beautiful manicured garden of vegetables and flowers. Their beloved "Woods" became their final home. Their kids, grandkids and even great-grandkids have enjoyed the beauty and magic of the Woods over the years.
Betty loved her horses and a very special St. Bernard – "Bootka". Betty had a big heart and was happiest when she cooked for the family gatherings - she was known for her delicious "veal sticks" and large apple pie cuts. She was a self-described "a tough Pollack" who loved coffee, spicy hot foods, anything purple for West High School and shopping at Big Lots!
Betty is survived by her children and their spouses: Ken (Bev) Kubiak, Mike (Gail) Kubiak, Dave (Connie) Kubiak, Joan (Jeff) Beauvais; a daughter-in-law, Terry (Christensen) Kubiak. She is further survived by 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; one sister and a sister-in-law, Janet (Gerry) VanGheem and Darlene Charneski; and a brother-in-law Jim (Sarah) Kubiak; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, infant daughter Katherine, son Gerald "Jake", daughter-in-law Jeanne (Tess) Kubiak, grandson Anton "Tony", her parents, her sister Irene Hockers, her brother Dick Charneski, and brothers-in-law John Hockers and Richard Kubiak.
A very special thank you to Samantha Retzlaff, Betty's part-time caregiver, for the kind, loving care given to Betty and her dogs in her final days.
By the family's wishes private services will be held at a later date.
