Bernard "Ben" Otto Koehler, 81, Hobart, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2022. He was born June 22, 1941, in Green Bay to Otto and Marion (Hebel) Koehler.
Ben graduated from West High School, Class of '59. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy with his friend Frederick "Whitey" J. Giesler Sr. Ben was stationed on a tugboat on the USS Munsee. He married Elaine Nier on March 1, 1963. She preceded him in death in 1973. After discharge from the Navy, he worked at Gardner Denver Machine shop. Ben became a carpenter and joined the Carpenters Union, Local #1146. He retired in 1998. Ben enjoyed golfing with his friends, watching NASCAR, placing gentlemen's agreements on NASCAR and making homemade trophies. He and his friends would pick a driver and would give prizes based on their driver's placement. Ben was known for his creative "prizes" and trophies. He also enjoyed keeping a meticulous yard and watching the Packers.
He is survived by his daughter, Vicki (Bruce) Hyland; grandsons, Andrew (fiancée, Amber Earley), Jordan; siblings, Janice Koehler, Phyllis (Phil) Lautenslager, Jim Koehler, Kathy (Mark Schmidt) Koehler; sisters-in-law, Pat Koehler, Sonia (Chuck) Majerick, Marlene Nier; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ben was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; parents, Otto and Marion; brothers, Robert "Bud" Koehler, Lawrence "Larry" (Rose) Koehler; sister-in-law, Janet (John) Van Veghel; brothers-in-law, Ronald Nier, Rodney Nier; niece, JoAnn Koehler and nephew, Jason Huxford.
Friends and family will gather at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, September 26; Funeral Service to follow at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ben's name to benefit Aurora Hospice.
Ben's family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staffs at Aurora BayCare ICU, Aurora Hospice, and the Bellin Cancer Team, for their sincere and compassionate care.
