Bernard "Bernie" J. Detaege, 87, Kaukauna, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2025. He was born February 27, 1938, in Oconto to Henry and Margaret (Leneau) Detaege.

Bernie graduated from Oconto High School. He married Ramona Stich and together they had four children. Bernie worked for Northwest Engineering Company. He also was self-employed as a paint contractor for many years and worked for various home maintenance companies. Bernie was always a hard worker his whole life. He was all work and no play; but later in life he began to come out of his shell. Bernie was a Jack of all trades and took great pride in his ability to fix anything. He was happy to pass along his knowledge and to teach his sons. Bernie enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors. He was a lifelong quad parish member and was a devout Catholic. He pilgrimaged to Medjugorje with church groups. His faith was very important to him.

He is survived by his children, Steve (Kay) Detaege, Bob (Lori) Detaege, Laurie Detaege, Debra (Thomas) Nier; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Rita (Jack).

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Margaret; a grandchild, Daniel; siblings, Dolores (Joseph) Aubrey, Richard (Barbara) Detaege, Raymond (Patricia) Detaege and Byron Detaege; mother of his children, Ramona.

Friends and family will gather at Annunciation Catholic Church, 401 Gray St., from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20; Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Oconto Catholic Cemetery. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
