Basil John Lepak, 91, Green Bay, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023. He was born October 27, 1931, in Stockton, WI, to Felix Joseph Lepak Sr. and Angeline Margaret Yenter. He was the second oldest of 12 children.
Basil was known as a hard worker throughout his life. Growing up he served the church in Manawa as a coal stoker and church bell ringer, and his younger siblings often looked up to him as a father figure. After graduating from Manawa High School, Basil served his country in the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed in Great Falls Montana. After leaving the service, he moved back to Green Bay and worked for Green Bay Western Railroad for over 30 years as a switchman. On October 29, 1960, he married Kathleen Marie Laska at St. Stanislaus Church, Stevens Point, WI. After retiring from the railroad, Basil kept busy working for Parmentier's Floral as a delivery driver.
In addition to his many years of employment, Basil found time to serve his community through many volunteer programs. He served as a treasurer for numerous organizations; Knights of Columbus 4 th Degree Assembly 1197 and Council 617, St. Agnes Men's Club (28 years), Concerned Hearts Club, and Serra Club (1989-2020). He was involved with the Botanical Garden both as a member and volunteer. Basil ran the Knights of Columbus basketball tournaments. When his boys were young, he was a scout master. Basil also volunteered with the Premontre Sentry Club. He was also awarded the Knight of the Year award for Wisconsin.
Basil and Kathy enjoyed traveling, including a trip in 1976 when the family took a three-week vacation out west. His favorite adventure was a safari in Africa. Basil was proud to have visited all 50 States. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and trout fishing. Basil was a huge Packer Fan and season ticket holder and even attended the Ice Bowl. Basil's family was honored to celebrate his 90 th birthday at the Railroad Museum.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Colonel (retired) Jeffrey (Margaret), Brian (Karen Rogers), Randy (Kathy), Steve (Claire Lovell-Lepak); grandchildren, Joseph, Delaney, Quinten, David (Melissa) Wollbrink, Ben, Sam, Thomas; great-grandchildren, Addison, Emma; siblings, Carley, Patricia, Felix Jr., Angie (David), Sharon (Larry), Margie (Michael), siblings-in-law, Judith (James), Leroy, Gregory (Susan); nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Basil was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Angeline; siblings, Tom (Rita), Marie (Robert), Betty (James), Gabriel (Mary), Caroline (Bobby); siblings-in-law, Nancy, Michael, Peggy, Linda, and James (Marcine).
Friends and family will gather at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 19; Parish Wake Service to follow at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, May 20 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 Ninth St., from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 a.m. with Rev.
