Basil S. Koury, 96, went Home to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, April 9, 2010. He was born March 1, 1914 in Des Moines, Iowa and moved from Akron, Ohio to Green Bay upon marrying Alice Farah on Nov. 18, 1946. Alice preceded him to Heaven on February 11, 1991.
Basil served in World War II with the U.S. Army 5th Air Force. He was stationed in the South Pacific from1941 to 1945 as a Staff Sergeant and was extremely proud to have served and defended the "Good old U. S. of A.".
Basil's work career included Wheeler Cheese Company, Barney's A &W, Farah Food Mart, Farah Liquor and finally owner of Badger Liquor Stores 1 and 2 before retiring at the age of 62. Basil enjoyed gardening and going to Florida in his retirement until the loss of his wife in 1991. He then dedicated his life to his children and grandchildren, living and being cared for in his home by them until the end.
He is survived by his five sons and two daughters and their families, Rick Koury and children, Ryan and Meghan Koury and their mother, Barbara W. Koury; Bob and Paula Koury and children, Pete and Laura; Diana and Dan Seidel and children, Tony and Chris (Charity) Seidel and Madeline Rose in May, 2010; Joe and Sissy Koury and children, Christina, Joseph, Natalie, Steven; Dennis Koury and son, Jacob Gussert; Mary Jeanne and Rev. G. Jeff Dobratz and children, Jacob and Hannah; Dave and Mary Jo Koury and children, Dustin and Desi; two great-grandchildren, Felicia and Andrew LeMere and their father, Tim LeMere.
Basil is further survived by his three sisters, Helen (Andrew) Poulos, Tucson, AZ; Vicky Sadie, Akron, OH; Mary Jane Mann, Phoenix, AZ; three brothers-in-laws, Barney (Ruth) Farah, Carl (Pat) Farah, Phil (Ruth) Farah; two sisters-in-law, Fern Farah and Joy Farah; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and foster families.
Relatives preceding Basil to Heaven are his parents, Harry and Benora (Nahas) Koury and Sadie (Nahas) Koury; parents-in-law, Esber and Sophia Farah; his "in-laws", Salem Sadie, Adrian Mann, George Farah, Don Farah, Doris Farah, numerous other aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may meet with Basil's family at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1420 Division St., from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 2010. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 5:00 p.m. Monday at the church. Online condolences are available at www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
