Anita "Nita" Rosemary Hilgenberg, 98, Green Bay, passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 21, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born May 9, 1924, in Laona, WI to Oscar and Myrtle (Way) Nelson.
Nita graduated from Mountain High School, Class of 1942. During World War II Nita worked for the war effort as a draftsperson creating blueprints in Waukesha, WI. After the war she moved with her family to Oconto, WI where she worked at the hospital for many years. She married Gene "Duffy" Hilgenberg in 1953, they moved to Green Bay where they were able to build a wonderful life together. Nita took pride in being able to stay in their original home until just before her passing. She raised three children and being a mother and grandmother, she considered her greatest accomplishment. She was always willing to help her neighbors and friends. Nita enjoyed making quilts and loved a good rummage sale. Nita was a longtime volunteer and served on the Board of Directors at Options for Independent Living.
She is survived by her children, Peggy (Brent) Crabb, Polly (Dean) Christian, Curt (Mary) Hilgenberg; grandchildren, Casey, Kyle (Jolene), Dave (Miranda); great grandchildren, Anthony, Shyanne, Mason, Valorie; special niece, Nancy Gustke; close friends, Lori and Joe.
Nita was preceded in death by her husband, Duffy on October 21, 1991.; sister, Harriet (Lou) Angelich; sister-in-law, Jackie (John) Saubert.
Friends and family will gather at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 Ninth St., from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, January 30; Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 12 p.m. with Rev. Patrick C. Beno officiating. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com .
