Alma passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024, in her sleep at 100 years of age. She was born July 18, 1923, in Liepaja, Latvia.
She married her husband Richard in 1941 and had a daughter in 1943. During this period of time (World War II) the Soviet Union occupied Latvia; arresting and killing many people, "it wasn't unusual for people to disappear!" Alma, Richard, and child fled Latvia by boat at night to a place unknown?? They moved from place to place until they arrived at a D. P. Camp in Neustadt, Germany.
In 1949 Alma's aunt and uncle sponsored her family to America. Alma said, "I think America is paradise." Their son, Eric, was born in Chicago. They moved to Green Bay in 1957. Alma worked at Moore Business Forms for 30 years. After retirement Alma joined the YWCA exercise class and met the best group of ladies and they became the very best of friends.
She is survived by her children, Rita Buckmaster, Eric (Linda) Deksnis; grandchildren, Chris (Melissa) Buckmaster, Jay (Megan) Buckmaster, Nick Buckmaster, Heather (Mike) Clark and Chad (Stacy) Peruzzi; great-grandchildren, Toby, Tessa, Cade, Myah, Adalyn, Dominic, Alexis, Rachael, Dennis; and many close friends.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; son-in-law, Jim Buckmaster; sister, Ruta.
