Albert "Goose" Richard Ashbeck, 86, Kaukauna, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023. He was born on April 9, 1937, in the Town of Freedom to Theodore Herman George and Annie Mae (Adams) Ashbeck on the Adams Farm. He was born at 1:30 am and then promptly got up at 5 am to milk the cows.

Al attended the one-room schoolhouse in the Town of Freedom and was the top of his class each year; it helped that he was the only student in his grade. After graduating from Wabeno High School, Al went on to work for Wisconsin Public Service for over 36 years and spent 28 of those years as a line foreman. In addition to his work, Al was very active in his community. He volunteered for the Wabeno Fire Department for 29 years, where he spent 13 of those years as fire chief, spent 19 years as a member of the Wisconsin Fire Fighters Association. He was also on the Wabeno Fair Board for 31 years, and he was a member of the Wabeno Lions Club for over 50 years.

On June 14, 1958, he married Joyce Ardith Scheelk and they shared 61 wonderful years together. The couple owned the Hilltop Supper Club for 12 years. Upon retirement, Al and Joyce moved to Laramie, WY where they lived for 11 years. In 2008 they decided to move closer to home in Iron River, MI. They loved spending winters with friends in Bandera, Texas.

Al will be sadly missed by his children, Allen (Stephanie) Ashbeck, Thomas (Diane) Ashbeck, David (Kate) Ashbeck, Lori Ashbeck, Linda (David) Vander Pas, Jodi (Randy) Burton, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter; and his brother, Thomas David Ashbeck.

He was preceded in death by his wife; grandson, Tyler Vander Pas; siblings, Grace (Feick) Smith, Edwin Ashbeck, Theodore "Carl" Ashbeck, and Michael Ashbeck; son-in-law William Trentman.

Friends and family will gather at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery - Wabeno, located on Cemetery Rd, Wabeno, WI 54566., starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2024; A Celebration will follow at the Wabeno Fairgrounds. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Al's name to benefit the Wabeno Lions Club or the Wabeno Fire Department.

Al's family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center and ThedaCare Regional Medical Center for their amazing care of Al.
