Fred Wendt, 88, Abrams, died unexpectedly but peacefully Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at a local hospital. He was born Feb. 5, 1920, in Forestville, Mich., to Otto, Sr. and Ella (Ullman) Wendt. On Jan. 22, 1944, Fred was united in marriage to Ruby Rowell in Green Bay. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage until Ruby preceded him in death on Aug. 13, 1999. Fred sailed on the Great Lakes in the 1930s and 1940s. He started as a coal passer and worked his way up to 2nd assistant engineer. Fred worked for many years at the Hotel Northland and later at Woodside Nursing Home until his "retirement." In his "retirement," he did demolition and salvage work. Fred also volunteered for the "Friends of Abrams." He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, collecting coins, bowling and dart ball but he really enjoyed just helping out people.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and David Jolly, Abrams; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Jolly, Abrams; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Otto, Jr. and Alma Wendt, Swartz Creek, Mich.; Karl and Deloris Wendt, Corunna, Mich.; Fred's special friend, Monica and her family; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, John and Marion Molik, Joseph Detiege, all of Green Bay; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; his parents; and a brother, Rudy Wendt.
