Raymond James Sobiek
(August 28, 1916 - February 24, 2006)
Raymond James Sobiek, 89, Village of Howard, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006. He was born Aug. 28, 1916 in Green Bay to Edward and Frances (Skaleski) Sobiek. On June 24, 1939, Raymond was united in marriage to Edna Miller. Raymond was a musician and formed Ray Sobiek's Orchestra in the 1940s. He later owned and operated Sobiek's Auto Body until his retirement in 1977. Raymond was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Parish and the Musician's Union Local 205. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and spending time with his family and friends.
Raymond is survived by his wife of more than 66 years, Edna; two children and a daughter-in-law, Jane Ysebaert, James and Kathy Sobiek; a son-in-law, Dominic Gierczak; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Vicky (Jeff) McIntyre, Gary Gierczak, Rick Gierczak, Terry (Jeff) Balistriere, John (Stacey Stephani) Ysebaert, Jim (Sharon) Ysebaert, Phillip (Sue) Sobiek, Laura (Eric) Ohlwiler; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosalie Smith; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl (Joann) Sobiek, and Jerry (Esther) Sobiek; many other relatives and friends.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Carol Gierczak; a brother, Edward (Lucille) Sobiek; and a brother-in-law, Harold Smith.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 9:30-11 a.m. Monday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Bergstadt officiating.
