Mary Murphy, 90, Green Bay, passed away Monday, April 8, 2013, at Parkside Village in Allouez. She was a lifelong resident of Green Bay. Born on May 30, 1922, she was the daughter of John T. Murphy and Elizabeth (Cleary) Murphy.
Mary was a graduate of Marquette University and taught high school history in Oconto Falls and De Pere. She received her MA degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and was a social worker for Brown County and for Green Bay Public Schools for many years, retiring in 1984. Mary was also a lifelong member of St. Patrick Parish in Green Bay.
Mary is survived by her nieces, Dr. Kathleen Cody, San Antonio, TX; Mary C. “Kate” Murphy PhD (Katy Downs), Pinckney, MI; Sheila (Dr. Allen) Hill, Minneapolis, MN; Eileen (John) Smith, Cassopolis, MI; Margaret (John) Mackai; Germantown, WI; nine great-nieces and great-nephews; four great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; a special friend and caretaker, Wanda Hammer; and life-long friend, Betty Miron. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Dr. John T. “Jack” Murphy, Patrick Murphy; her sisters-in-law, Annette Tallman Murphy, Patricia Kelliher Murphy; and her five dogs, all named Nipper.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 18. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Friends may also call at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 211 N. Maple Ave., from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 19. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, with Rev.
