(August 12, 1920 - July 12, 2012)

Send Private Condolences

Bernice W.

Bernice W. “Nieci” Gevaert, 91, Green Bay, died Thursday, July 12, 2012. She was born Aug. 12, 1920, in De Pere, to Bernard and Clara (Gevers) Kempen. Bernice was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed as much as she was loved. As a young woman, Bernice and her other family members sang on the radio. She was an avid Packers fan who loved Aaron Rodgers but without his beard and mustache. Bernice knew all the players names and numbers, especially the good looking ones. She loved flowers. Each of her children’s gardens is a testimony to her. Her faith in God has sustained her for her entire life every day from morning prayers to her evening prayers.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Dennis and Toni Gevaert, Donna Tilkens, Sue and Pat Hickey, Sharon and Dirk Van Vuren; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two on the way; a brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Pat Kempen; a sister and brother-in-law, Rosanne and Dan Polley.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Henry T. Gevaert; her sisters and brothers, Marie Janssen, Elaine Deacon, Johanna Kempen, Rev. Gerald Kempen, Adrian Kempen, Marvin Kempen, Albert Kempen, Gilbert Kempen, Raphael Kempen, and Norman Kempen.

Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday. Friends may also call at Annunciation Catholic Church, 401 Gray St., from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Ryan Krueger officiating. Burial will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.

The family extends their appreciation to Dr. Volk, Dr. Jerzak, and the staffs of Green Bay Oncology and Bellin 4th Floor Medical.
